Description

For over three thousand years, people around the world have read, reflected upon and applied the wisdom found in Proverbs and Ecclesiastes to their daily lives. They have been drawn to these books for their appeal for wisdom, admonition for godliness, and for their trustworthiness. But now, DAVID REID BROWN has been inspired to answer this question by taking the practical wisdom of these scriptures and conveying them through the literary device of poetry in his new book, SOPHIA’S SONGS.

Sophia is the Greek word for “wisdom,” specifically, the theoretical wisdom of which Aristotle believed was wisdom’s purest form (gaining wisdom for wisdom’s sake) while the word Phronesis means the practical application of wisdom, which is the whole premise of the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. The title, SOPHIA’S SONGS, was chosen for artistic purposes but readers are encouraged to go beyond pondering about the poetry and apply its meaning to their daily life.

SOPHIA’S SONGS features three beautiful types of poetry: Haiku, Shakespearean Sonnet, and Free Verse. Since wisdom literature has a strong affinity with haiku, the bulk of the poetry is formatted in this specific style. Book chapters are arranged by the SEVEN FLOWERS that are associated with ancient wisdom, each with a brief section for written reflection. SOPHIA’S SONGS will fascinate you with the creative experience of reading poetry while enhancing your understanding of God’s word.
