I wrote this book because I love to help people. I represent a small part of the population that truly feels good when we are helping other people. When you are happy, we feel happy.

When you are successful, we feel successful. It is no mistake that I fell into the spiritual healing arts long before I moved into business and social strategies work.

Description

I wrote this book because I love to help people. I represent a small part of the population that truly feels good when we are helping other people. When you are happy, we feel happy.

When you are successful, we feel successful. It is no mistake that I fell into the spiritual healing arts long before I moved into business and social strategies work.

Something caught my attention when I saw a recurring reaction pattern in the people I have helped through the years. It caught my attention when I proposed to them that in order to be fully functioning and healthy, we need to connect to our past, present, and future. I was surprised to find that a large percentage of those people didn’t want to connect to a past that is too nearby.

We love the idea of connecting with our ancestors and their structural gifting(s) to us. It is a romantic notion and very appealing because it is safe. When it comes to connecting to our near past or more plainly put, our living relatives, it becomes instantly problematic. The title of this book, “You Are Your Mother You Are Your Father Get Over It,” addresses this very thing. The subtitle is, “You Can Get Over It.”

––Joseph Goodwin

“Fabulous Book! A great topic, a great personal journey, and a great contribution to healing! Joseph Goodwin has courageously tackled one of the most important topics of our time achieving mature adulthood rooted in a deep personal understanding of the past, the present, and the hoped-for future!”   -John B. Mumford
Managing Director, The Washington Group - Consultants, LLC
“Joseph tackles the timeless questions of who we are and why it matters. He masterfully crafts an engaging conversation, showing the importance of understanding our parental heritage which helps us confront the roots of challenging personal issues. We have had the cards of life dealt, and there are no bad cards. You will learn how to play ‘em with a winning edge if you’re ready to apply yourself. I am delighted that Joseph invited me to tell my adoption story, and in the process, this book helped me heal. This book is a tool directly from the father heart of God to bring us closer to Him and be at peace with ourselves.”   —Manny Mestas, M.A.
“I have known Joseph for over twenty-five years, sharing hundreds of hours of conversation, observing, and participating in mutual spiritual and emotional development. Many of his transformational thoughts are found in the friendly pages of this book. As he is a genuine practitioner in this adventure of life, I have watched the profound effect of his wisdom as he has counseled and encouraged literally the whole spectrum of humanity. The writings in this first book will activate an emotional and spiritual awakening in any reader that will approach it with an open and meditative heart.”   —Patrick Sparrow, Capstone Ministries International Leadership
“As they say, every book needs an editor, and every editor a book. So, when Joseph Goodwin mentioned his soon-to-be-published and long-awaited, You Are Your Mother You Are Your Father Get Over It (And You Can Get Over It),” I was thrilled to be part of the process. I and others have looked forward to this book for many years. We encouraged Joseph to write it because the teachings are deeply relevant to everyone who has ever had parents! As you turn the pages, you will find reasons you haven’t ‘gotten over it,’ as well as answers to how you honestly can. The concepts in this book have opened up a whole world of possibilities in my life and have changed how I view myself and those around me. I now celebrate the genetic connections in my life every day.”   —Julianne R. Gatz, Editor, Writer, Writing Coach
(Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and All-Around Human Being)
“This book by Joseph Goodwin is about many, many things. It is about parents, and how we all become versions of our parents without knowing it. And whether we like it or not. But it is about much more than that, his book. It is filled with insight about how to live a full life, a life filled with compassion and soul. And most important, agency. And the meaning and purpose agency confers to us. Best of all, Joseph’s book helps us understand ourselves, and how we can navigate life’s biggest challenges, and see them for what they are: growth and learning opportunities. In the end, this is a book I would recommend not just for its great wisdom, but for its practical applications to living a more meaningful – and hopeful – life.”   —Lee Habeeb, Vice President of Content, Salem Radio Network
